Food-Hunting in Macau

Gosh… food hunting in Macau was FUN! So many that we can eat there but the following three are the most famous ones in Macau. Not that I am exaggerating or something but they are simply irresistible.

1) Portuguese egg tarts

I think I've mentioned them in my previous post. But I'm definite that once you've tried one, you would want to put another one in your mouth right away. Simply marvelous! Smooth and soft egg custard surrounded by layers of fine thin crispy layered skin. Its skin and the egg custard blend well and with just one bite, it melts in no time.

2) Steamed Milk Pudding

For milk lovers – You can’t say NO to this bowl of tempting dessert. Try a bowl of steamed milk pudding and you'll fall in love... (once again). They even give you the option of serving them hot or cold. To me, I love BOTH! Its silky smooth texture and strong milky flavour give the 'magical' touch to this simple dish. For those who love something extra, you can try their ginger steamed milk pudding. This won't disappoint you as well.

For non milk lovers – No worries, have a bowl of their egg custard pudding. Gosh, I can't describe this in words, but the soft and smooth texture of the egg custard is something you can never find elsewhere. Taste – brilliant! Not too sweet. Ngam ngam hou! (Just nice in Cantonese) Every mouthful of the custard excites your taste buds. Reminds me of the colourful nutty chocolates – melt in your mouth, not in your hands!

3) Pork chop bun

Frankly speaking, I do not eat pork due to personal health reason. But, I can tell you how aromatic this big chunk of meat was when they were being sizzled on the pan. The whole shop was being "seasoned" with the aroma of the cooking meat. I assume it's a version of Macau's very own burger. A piece of finely marinated fried pork chop, served in between slices of buns. According to my "carnivorous" friends, they love the bun more than anything! Hmmm… I can tell it when by just looking at their face while they were taking a bite of the huge Macau burger.

Oh gosh! My stomach is growling already… Wait 'til I fly to Macau for lunch… Wanna join me? Well, get your travel packages with PYO Travel if you wish to have lunch with me in Macau. 'Til then, ciao!

As the Dark Velvet Night Envelops Macau...

Night skyline of Macau

I feel my senses come tickling alive. The chirpy birds in the day go to bed and I can feel the buzzing rise of the night creatures who will take over the night with me. I think there’s a vampire in me, which shuns the day-light world when it drowns in the merciless sun’s fatal emission. The night is where the vampire queen shall rule.

Be there to feel the pulse of Macau Nightlife

Nights in Macau does not disappoint those who seek pleasure and groove. The steady beat of music accompanies the various exorbitant crazy themed clubs and bar at the Docks. The Docks is the place which will sure send anyone a shivering delight to join in the fun for some bar hopping and snazzy club scenes. You have the choice to be accompanied by showy entertainers, glitzy live dance bands, divvy Portuguese folk dancing, or some world class disc jockeys spinning out some cool beat. The best of these entertainment scenes at the Docks is located around the Avenida Sun Yat Sen. It’s not a hard spot to find as the gigantic bronze statue of Goddess of Mercy positioned there will tell you that you’re at the right place.

The Docks at Macau

Some shout-out spots at the Macau outer harbour are Nicole Fashion Club at Fisherman Wharf, D2 Club and The Sky 21 at AIA Tower, Moonwalk Bar and MP3 at Vista Magnifica Court, Whisky Bar at Star World Hotel. Whether you want to start off the night slow and easy with some quiet, relaxing waterside drinks or dive straight into the music, the myriad choices of bars, pubs, and clubs are there for you to pick.

If you are not up for drinks and work out sessions at the dance floor, go sing to your heart’s content at Macau’s famed karaoke bars and clubs at Taipa Island. I’m sure you’ll be familiar with how it works at these places with their ready-made packages which provides you the rooms, drinks and snacks. Be assured that the prices are reasonable as you get ready your vocal chords for some soul singing/ croaking.

Have a chill-out drink before your karaoke session!

Not in the mood to sing and dance? It takes too much effort? Ah, head to the casinos then. Macau, being the Las Vegas of Asia, does not sleep. Go try out your luck at the many games found at any of the casinos. The usual being Black Jack, Baccarat, Rouletter, or you can learn some games and play it the Chinese’s way in Fantan or Dai-Siu.

Try your luck at one of the many casinos in Macau

As for me who dances with two left foot and have the talent to croak more than sing, you’ll find me heading to Nam Van Lake Cybernetic Fountain. This mega high-tech fountain features laser beam and musical accompaniment along with jets sprouting out dancing water up to 80 meters high into the sky. It is truly one-of-its-kind performance featuring both laser and music performances at different days. The 30 minutes laser performance is on every Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 pm & 9:30 pm while the 1-hour music performance can be enjoyed on Monday to Friday at 1 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm and 9:30 to 10 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, the music performances are at 10 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm and 9:30 to 10 pm.

Wow! With so many things to do in the night and day (we’ll talk about that another time), you will be sure to have a fanta-bulous trip in Macau! Ask me along ya!

Experience Macau

After almost 4 hours flight, I finally touched down in M-A-C-A-U! Most people come here for “short-term investment” in the Asia’s finest Las Vegas. However, aside from the casinos, I was there for more! Well, me being myself, I am a person who loves adventure and excitement. But I find casinos are far too “exciting” for me. Haha! So, what else are there for me?

Ruins of St. Paul's

The first thing that came in mind was the Ruins of St. Paul’s. This is the most significant icon of Macau. What I knew was that it was once a church but got destroyed in a fire long time ago and what’s left was the façade which we can see now. The façade itself is truly an amazing art piece. Complete with statues and carvings on it. Another photogenic spot found!

Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt

To my surprise, other than the façade, there’s a Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt right at the back of it. Admission is free and you may enter the museum which displays paintings, statues and other sacred items. There are also some relics of martyrs from other countries on display. Be silent as this place is highly sacred and respectful. Syyyhhh…

A-Ma Temple

Next station – A-Ma Temple. Wow! Another UNESCO’s World Heritage spot. Remember, Manila? If Manila was to Spanish colonization, Macau is to Portuguese. A-Ma Temple is claimed to be the first place first landed by the Portuguese. Interesting! Basically, A-Ma Temple is a Chinese temple where the locals (and foreign visitors) offer their prayers to the God.

Delicious Portuguese Egg Tart

Right next to A-Ma Temple, there are rows of shops where they sell souvenirs and local delights. Guess what? I’ve finally found the most anticipated Portuguese Egg Tart! Don’t miss this local snack. Best food for tea time. Crispy and crunchy from the outside, soft and warm from the inside. Try it once and you’ll fall in love (again!)…

A convenient store in Macau

Macau Fisherman’s Wharf is an entertainment park with various themes suitable for every family members. When you were in the park, you are basically “around the globe”. You will find yourself surrounded by iconic buildings and architectures from around the world. There’s a Roman Amphitheatre in the middle of the park looking like The Colosseum. Children and youngsters will love Aladdin’s Fort, a place full of fun and exciting games and rides. Interesting enough, there’s even a casino for the adults here called Babylon Casino. Ladies (and shopping addicts), get ready to shop till you drop! Worried about accommodation? A hotel is here for you! Now, can I say Macau Fisherman’s Wharf is a complete package for your whole family?

Remember "300" the movie?

I can’t wait any longer for my next trip here. How about yourself? Click PYO Travel.com to experience Macau! Share your experience here with us.

I’ll Make You a Bet in Macau…

$1? $500? $8888? Hah! What’s your bet?

Will you become the next lucky star who walks out as the biggest winner to become an instant millionaire? Who knows?

What I do know is the ever present thrill of laying down a wager at one of the world’s largest, highest-volume gambling centre in the world --- Venetian, Macau.

Venetian, Macau

Being a bigger, more extravagant creation of its sister-casino in Las Vegas, USA, Venetian Macau Resort Hotel treats you to a luxurious experience through stunning replicas of Venice landmarks.

Imagine the grandeur of St. Mark’s Square, the rustic reddish brown stone Campanile Tower and the majestic arch pillars of Doge’s Palace lined-up in unison. It is not your average jaw-dropping splendor and lavishness at Venetian when you step into this massive mega structural design.

Fancy a ride on the gondola?

Being located in Macau, it’s not surprising to expect a little ‘Chinese’ touch as you’ll see little Chinese-style row boats and gondolas sailing across the canal. It’s charming and romantic as you enjoy the ersatz outdoor atmosphere inside the casino.

If testing out your lucky stars at the machine slots or game tables is not your cup of tea, there are always the best-served stylish gourmet restaurants for you recharge and to savour the various taste of the world or back to the local Macanese flavours after your day of shopping.

Time for a bite after all the shopping!

Oh, I mentioned Shopping. There are more than 300 stores for you to explore along the canal, offering the best in fashion, jewellery, accessories, gifts, services and sporting goods. Getting souveniers has never been so easy. If you get tired of walking, hop on to the little sampans with your shopping bags and be entertained by the colourful street performers.

There are also non-stop show times for you to pick! Be it toe-tapping along the electrifying dance shows; rub shoulders with super star live-in-concert, or be enthralled with a magic performance more than just pulling out a rabbit-from-the-hat-trick. If you crave for more, there’s the all new world renowned show – Zaia by Cirque du Soliel. I can guarantee you to be spellbound by its blend of music, drama, dance, and magic!

Not to be missed- ZAIA by Cirque du Soleil

There are also other big-names mega casinos in Macau, but I don’t want to overwhelm you with too much excitement in one-‘read’. They are all so exhilarating! Till then, more to come in future on Macau!

Don’t wait for me to post more before your visit to this splendid excitement-filled place. You can always check it out Now.
